We solicit proposals for conducting competitions/hackathons for the 2023 IEEE Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition (FG 2023).

The goal of competitions is to mobilize the research community to solve a challenging problem of relevance to FG. For example, the participants can be expected to compete on a machine learning task of interest to the FG community where the problem and datasets are defined and released by the organizers of the competition.

The proposals may be targeted toward a specific participant demographic (e.g., undergraduate, or graduate students). Interdisciplinary topics that will attract a significant cross-section of the community are especially encouraged.

The competition track will be held alongside the main conference (Jan 4-8, 2023), where the results will be discussed/winners announced.

PROPOSAL SUBMISSION

Competition proposals must be sent in PDF format (max. 3 pages) to the Competition Co-chairs, Ran He (rhe@nlpr.ia.ac.cn) and Sergio Escalera (sergio@maia.ub.es) with the email subject “FG 2023 Competition Proposal”. The proposal must include the following information:

• Title;
• List of organizers including affiliation, emails, and short biographies as well as relevant past experience;
• Problem statement, motivation, and goal;
• Target participant demographic (if any);
• Relevance to the FG community;
• Proposed protocol and timeline including databases to be used, if any, and the length/duration of the proposed competition/hackathon; for competitions please plan on finishing evaluation before the commencement of the conference;
• Plans for advertising and recruitment of participants; please include a specific plan for attracting participants of groups under-represented at FG;
• Requirements, if any, from the co-chairs for organization;
• Evaluation criteria i.e. how will the competition submissions be reviewed/judged;
• Tentative judgment panel;
• Planned awards for winners/top participants;
